We wanted to be able to share and collaborate on confidential notes with people we trust:

You can share a single note or a branch of notes with multiple trusted people
Any changes within the shared note or its subtree are automatically synchronized between participants
Data is encrypted so that only participants can decrypt the data in the shared notes

Pin code prevents unwanted access to the running app instance

Secure and Open Source

We wanted to be able to store any kind of data (whether personal, confidential, or credentials) and know it is safe. Here's how:

Everything is AES-GCM-256 encrypted before it leaves your device
No one can read your data: not us, not our servers, and not your ISP
All the code is open source under GPLv2, ensuring security is transparent
We prevent accidental screen sharing by hiding Mimiri Notes from screen sharing programs
We prevent onlookers and security cameras from seeing passwords by hiding them from plain view
Optionally lock the application when it has been unused for a while

Well-organized

For us, a key design principle was always that as a user, you should have complete freedom in how data is organized. This is how we achieved it:

A tree structure allows endless nesting of notes within notes
Notes can be easily moved around and reorganized
Quickly narrow down the tree using search to find a specific note
Nothing is just a folder: any note can contain data as well as sub-notes

We wanted to be able to access our data from anywhere and have it synchronized in real-time:

Clients are available for all major platforms (see Downloads)
All data is cloud-synchronized and pushed to your other devices in real-time
A local copy of your data exists on your device, granting full access even when offline
Our web client allows access from any browser, even if you are without any of your devices

Every change creates a historical entry which can be viewed and restored

Unlimited version history

Your data and changes are always safe, even if mistakes happen:

Unlimited version history means every edit is tracked, allowing you to view and restore any previous version
Deleted notes go to a Recycle Bin first, protecting against accidental deletion
A local copy of your data is stored on your device, accessible even when offline

This means your notes are always protected, whether you accidentally delete or edit something, or even if our servers were to disappear.
